Smoking Cessation

Stopping smoking is the best thing you can do for your health.

We'd love to help you quit! We have many different tools available to help you, so come and discuss smoking cessation with your doctor today.

You can also access free help from the Southern Stop Smoking Service and there is good information and resources on the Quitline website, or phone 0800 778 778 for support and advice.

Children's Health

"A person's a person, no matter how small."   - Dr. Seuss.

We enjoy interacting with children at Amity, and recognise the important part they play in our community. We can see your child when they are unwell, if you have any concerns about them, and also for their Well Child checks.

Well Child Checks

Well Child Checks

Well Child/Tamariki Ora is a free service provided by The Ministry of Health for all New Zealand children from birth to five years. Well Child can support you to protect and improve your child’s health, so they can grow and develop to their full potential.

We are more than happy to see your child for their regular well child checks. There are a number of other health care providers who can see you for free too. These include Plunket, Arai Te Uru Whare Hauora, and Pacific Trust Otago.

Child Immunisations

New Zealand Immunisation Schedule

New Zealand offers a comprehensive immunisation schedule to protect your child from serious infectious diseases. At Amity Health Centre we strongly encourage you to have your child fully immunised, on time, as this offers the best protection for your child. Immunisation of children with vaccines from the NZ Immunisation Schedule is free.

Information on vaccines is available on the NZ Ministry of Health website. There is also useful advice at the Immunisation Advisory Centre site.

Optional Childhood Immunisations

Parents can opt to vaccinate their children against other diseases that are not on the childhood immunisation schedule. There is a fee for these immunisations. Please discuss your child's immunisation needs with either a practice nurse or your doctor.

The influenza injection is available each autumn. Your child may need one or two injections, depending on their age and whether they have had it before. It is highly recommended for children with asthma and some other long-term health conditions; these children are eligible for free vaccination. Read more about the flu and kids here.

Travel Medicine

Please make an appointment to discuss your travel plans as far in advance as possible. We offer 30 minute travel consults to discuss immunisation requirements, plan for potential illnesses (such as Malaria prophylaxis), and to discuss management plan for travellers with other medical conditions.

Intra Uterine Device - IUD

IUD's are an extremely effective form of contraception. They come in two main types: either a Copper IUD, or a Mirena IUS.

Dr Susie Lawless is trained in the insertion of IUD's. This service is available for both patients from Amity Health Centre, and for patients from other medical centres.

If you would like to have an IUD fitted, you need to come for an initial appointment to discuss whether this is right for you, and to have some swabs taken. The fitting of the device may take up to 30 minutes. You will also need to have a follow-up check after six weeks.

Aclasta Infusions

Aclasta infusions are available at Amity Health Centre for patients with low bone density. This service is available to Amity patients, and also to patients who may be referred from another medical centre. Please discuss your suitability for this treatment with your doctor.
