Mental Health

At Amity Health Centre we want to support you in living well. We have plenty of resources available to help you on this journey. Talking to your GP is a really good place to start if you have concerns about your mental health, or the mental health of a family member.

If you have serious mental health concerns, the Emergency Psychiatric Service (EPS) is a 24 hour service available through Dunedin Public Hospital. Phone 0800 467846 Option 2. You can also Freecall or Free Text 1737 to speak to a trained counsellor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week..

Counselling can be really helpful for support and understanding, education, problem solving, and brief intervention work. The Southern Primary Health Organisation provides up to 6 free counselling sessions for our enrolled patients through the Brief Intervention Service. Group and individual sessions are available. There is also an interactive online programme available, Beating the Blues.

Psychology assessment can provide a structured approach to dealing with mental health problems. There are many private providers of counselling and psychology services in Dunedin.
