Children are offered 2 MMR (Measles Mumps and Rubella) vaccinations at 15 months and 4 years.
For Children travelling to Auckland or overseas countries with a measles outbreak:
- Children aged 6 months to 12 months can have their first MMR early but will still need to have 2 further doses at 15 months and 4 years of age to attain full immunity. If you have a child who is in this age group and travelling to Auckland or overseas please contact our nurses for advice through MMH, e-mail nurses@amityhc.co.nz, or phoning 03 464 0041.
- Children between 12 and 15 months of age can have their first MMR and other vaccinations due at 15 months early. Please book an appointment with our nurses to do this.
For Adults and older children :
- People with no history of immunisation are at risk of catching measles and passing measles on if they are in contact with someone with the disease and will require isolation in their own home for up to 2 week if they come into contact with such a person. It is these people who should consider being vaccinated soon
- Those aged up to 20 years old who know that they have had all their recommended childhood vaccinations can regard themselves as immune.
- Those aged 20- 50 years who know that they have had at least 1 MMR have a high chance of being immune but as Measles outbreaks can occur at any time, it is wise to book in at some stage in the future for a second MMR. If they have had 2 MMRs they definitely need to take no further action.
- People born before 1969 (when measles vaccination was introduced in New Zealand) can consider themselves already immune because there was enough measles in the community to provide natural immunity
